An entrepreneur and self styled ‘Lord’ has been jailed for seven years after being found guilty of running a £4m global fraud racket.

“Lord” Edward Davenport, 45, was the mastermind of an “advanced fee fraud” scheme in which scores of businesses and individuals were ripped off.

Davenport is the owner of 33 Portland Place, a vast Georgian mansion in central London. He used the property as a venue for lavish parties, music video shoots and film sets. It was used in the oscar-winning film The King’s Speech.

But today, following the lifting of court legal restrictions, it can be revealed that, behind the scenes, he was also running a bogus financial lending company called Gresham Ltd.

During the three month trial, the court heard how he was the “ringmaster” of a fraud racket in which he claimed to offer loans to small businesses and individuals during the credit crunch.

Gresham Ltd portrayed itself as a respectable business with 50 years’ experience of sourcing huge commercial loans.
