Reuters – If Aubrey de Grey‘s predictions are right, the first person who will live to see their 150th birthday has already been born. And the first person to live for 1,000 years could be less than 20 years younger. A biomedical gerontologist and chief scientist of a foundation dedicated to longevity research, de Grey reckons that within his own lifetime doctors could have all the tools they need to “cure” ageing — banishing diseases that come with it and extending life indefinitely. “I’d say we have a 50/50 chance of bringing ageing under what I’d call a decisive level of medical control within the next 25 years or so,” de Grey said in an interview before delivering a lecture at Britain’s Royal Institution academy of science.” And what I mean by decisive is the same sort of medical control that we have over most infectious diseases today.”

De Grey sees a time when people will go to their doctors for regular “maintenance,” which by then will include gene therapies, stem cell therapies, immune stimulation and a range of other advanced medical techniques to keep them in good shape.

“Since people are going to be living longer and getting older, they’ll just have to learn how to be babies longer.” – Andy Warhol (American Artist. Initiator of Pop Art, 1928-1987)

Sorry about the double post but had to fix a typo.

I just know someone is going to put a dumb comment like, “but where over populated oh no”.
Id just like to say to those people, that simple minded thinking is whats slowing us down and holding us back, we need a change that will give “us” a change if we ever truly want to leave this planet.
The best way to look at it is like this, ask yourself how many countless 1000s of years have humans wasted teaching our youth the same thing over and over and over again don’t you think its time to move on and maybe become more then just human.
I know that sounds like science fiction but just think of what we could accomplish if just one human lived 1000 years, how much wisdom and knowledge this person would have in achieving true brilliance of enlightenment, as we all know life is too short to achieve that milestone or even comprehend what true enlightenment/wisdom would be like.
Living forever would bring about a new age which would influence technology to the point of blowing the average persons mind today.
And of course someone will say “If you live forever the world will really get over populated oh no” lets just think a little harder hum-mm….. well lets see, what if the people that chose to live forever had to sign an agreement to be stile, sorry to burst some peoples bubbles but think outside the box for a change, I’m sure that if it really becomes an issue just make it law to limit one child per family, “how hard is that”.
And I’m sure that knowledge and wisdom of a 1000 year old human would out shadow the fear of overpopulation by far with what would be gained through the knowledge kept and not whats lost to the younger generations of repeating a cycle of stupidity that forces relearning of everything that the average idiot would say is apart of life and can’t be changed.
