Well, that was fun – Barcelona Winter Olympics Challenge 2010

Examples of snow Monday in BCNTrue to his usual style, the Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, yesterday unveiled the Trial Run of a theoretical Barcelona Winter Olympics, but unfortunately forgot to tell the public in general, leading to many confused looks on the faces of residents, Japanese tourists and seagulls alike.

It was certainly an impressive show: several centimetres of snow during the afternoon shut down the bus and local train system and made it chaotic for people trying to get home from the office. Outside Barcelona, as many as 200,000 people were left without electricity in the province of Girona, where some flights were also cancelled.

The Mayor will no doubt be happy that the event had worldwide coverage, appearing as far away as South Africa.

The IOC was unavailable for comment…
